Author and architect Hend Asaad Nadim '87 graduated from the American University in Cairo, with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Islamic Art and Architecture. She has utilized her expertise in the field to mix traditional ornamentation with contemporary styles. She is currently the co-chairman and managing director of NADIM Industries, a family business established by her parents in 1978 that started as a small training-oriented workshop for the preservation of traditional woodwork. Due to its expertise in traditional crafts, NADIM has been involved in the restoration of historical monuments. Nadim is one of the founders of the Nadim Foundation for Heritage and Development, a non-profit, non-governmental organization aimed at documenting and disseminating tangible and intangible heritage with particular emphasis on Egyptian woodwork -- since ancient times to the present.
